iShort Captions adds captions to your videos. This policy explains exactly what it collects and what it does not.
When you sign in with Google we receive your email address, your name, and a user ID. We use these to identify your account, count your free transcriptions, and reply if you contact us. We do not use them for advertising, and we do not sell or share them.
When you tap Transcribe, the app extracts the audio track from the video you selected and uploads it to our speech-to-text processing partner, which converts it to text and returns captions.
If you use the SEO tools, the app sends your transcript text to our text-generation partner to produce titles, descriptions and hashtags. Your video and audio are not sent for this.
We record when a transcription happens and how long the clip was, so we can enforce the free monthly limit and understand our costs. These records are tied to your account ID.
To stop the free monthly allowance being reset by deleting and re-creating an account, we also keep a salted, one-way fingerprint of your Google sign-in alongside the number of free transcriptions you have used this month. The fingerprint cannot be reversed to identify you, is never used for contact or advertising, and the count resets at the start of each month. This is the one thing we retain after you delete your account — see Deleting your data.
If you send feedback in the app, we store your rating and message along with your account so we can act on it.
We do not use your microphone or camera. The app has no permission to.
Your account record and usage history are held in Google Firebase (Firestore and Firebase Authentication). Audio sent for transcription is processed by our speech-to-text partner and is not retained by us afterwards.
You can delete your account and everything we hold at any time:
In the app: Settings → Account → Delete account
This immediately removes your account, your remaining free transcriptions and your usage history. Your projects, videos and exports stay on your phone untouched, because they were never uploaded — delete the app to remove those.
The one thing we keep afterwards is the salted, one-way fingerprint described under Usage records — the count of free transcriptions used this month, so the allowance cannot be reset by deleting and re-creating an account. It cannot be reversed to identify you and clears at the start of each month.
If you cannot use the app, see the account deletion page or email aashishm20606@gmail.com and we will delete your data within 30 days.
iShort Captions is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
If we change what we collect we will update this page and the date above. If the change is significant we will say so in the app.
